Disorientation. A new house means learning new habits about where
things are. Like your bed. In my rush this morning, I hurried
over to my closet and misjudged the space I had to navigate around
my bed. Consequently, I slammed the two smallest toes of my left
foot into the bed post. At full throttle. My entire day was spent
hobbling around the office. I was afraid to even look at my bare
foot when I got home. Geoff came over for some beers, so I let
him look at it. It was a bit swollen and a blue area was forming
around the top of my foot near the little toes. He said I probably
hyper-extended a tendon or something but that didn't make sense
- by jamming my foot into a bed post wouldn't I have hyper-compressed
it? Well, extension / compression - whatever - it still hurts
like a mother******.
Oh yeah, and a pox on Trent for making me spend $50 buying Gauntlet
Dark Legacy.
My foot didn't look much better this morning. But it didn't look
much worse either. I suppose that's a good thing. It did hurt
to put on my socks and shoes - which I didn't experience yesterday.
Of course, my foot hadn't had time to bruise or swell much when
I put them on yesterday. When I hobbled into work this morning,
all my co-workers started activating my hypochondria because I
was still limping. The started talking about broken bones and
tarsels and doctors and casts and I started worrying, of course.
But over the course of the day the pain seems to have subsided
some and my limp is less pronounced. Every now and then I still
get a nice sharp pain when I move my foot in a weird direction.
Guess I'll just have to sit down, elevate my foot, put an ice
pack on it and play Gauntlet all night. Oh well.
Foot still hurting today. But much better, and I was able to
take the bike for a ride today after work. Woohoo! Also, the cats
are starting to get used to each other. Although Wilma still likes
to perch at the top of the stairs and keep Aussi from getting
to the basement. That sucks, because that is where the litter
boxes are.
Last night I went to a little gay bar in Alton, IL. Well, it's
the only gay bar in Alton, IL. It was the first time I had been
there and it was unfortunately, kareoke night. Not a good fist
impression. To make things worse, there was a wedding reception
there. A straight wedding reception. A straight wedding reception
where the groomsmen were all dressed as Elvis.
As we left we were introduced to some of Alton's high class citizens
who told us we were faggots for going to a faggot bar on this
faggot street. Well, duh. They weren't much for originality I
guess.
Saw Spider-Man
today. It was very good, although some of the dialouge was just
too corny. Willem Dafoe was a perfect casting choice for the Green
Goblin if you ask me. He didn't need that mask for the role. I'll
definately be buying the DVD. I can't wait to freeze frame Tobey
Maguire in skin-tight spandex.
Added some new tests to my online
personality page.
Rufus Yirt left this in my guest
book:
H-E-L-L-O!!! It's May 6 and there hasn't been a journal
entry since May 4! If you're gonna have a blogging web site...
you're going to have to keep it current. And! I bet you have
different CDs in car by now too! C'mon, you can do better Bradley.
Well Rufus, whoever you really are, I didn't get back
from Spider-Man until midnight last night and didn't have time
to make an entry until today. And yes, I still have the same CD's
in the car. I was listening to Bob Mould and Blink 182 on the
way home tonight as a matter of fact.
Did you ever have one of those days where nothing really seemed
to happen?
Well, today was one of those days.
Add two more tests today to the online
personality page. I'm not sure about the idea of a "What
Calvin Are You?" quiz, when Calvin is singular.
I can't believe this is for real: some yokel has started on online
petition to have New Line Cinema change the name of The
Two Towers to something else because of the World Trade Center.
Some people truely are clueless I guess. A lot of the people who
opted to sign it are even ragging on how stupid the petition is:
"I don't let my twins sit next to each other now because
it reminds me of the World Trade Center"
Went and saw a play in Webster Groves in which a coworker of
mine is performing. The play was The Foreigner by Larry Shue.
I didn't know anything about it, but with a name like that I thought
it was going to be boring. Well, imagine my surprise when it turned
out to be a comedy! We were laughing our butts off at it. I recommend
catching it if you can. I wonder if it was ever made into a movie?
Went to Magnolia's
for the first time in a long while. Since the last time I was
there they have added a martini bar! Yum Yum! Although I am usually
a martini purist (gin
& vermouth, if you please), I tried a couple of other
concoctions - just so long as they had gin in them. I found one
the bartender called the Ivy League particularly good: gin, ameretto
and lime juice. TASTY! I need to figure out how to make it myself
(or perhaps I better not...)
Urgh, too many martinis.... headache.... thunderstorms....
Gauntlet
Gauntlet
Gauntlet
Adult Swim
Sleep....
Mike's here. We're watching TV, but secertly I want to play
Gauntlet and am plotting a way to convince him he should watch
me play.
Bought The
Others today. What a fabulous movie. I can't recommend it
enough.
Rented John
Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars tonight. What a lousy movie. I
can't describe how bad it was.
Bored. And when you're bored, nothing happens. Oh yeah. Attack
of the Clones opened today. I didn't go see it, but Trent and
Bob took the day off and called me at work from Cleveland, where
they were watching it on one of 16 theatres in the U.S. that can
play it in the digital format in which it was filmed. I hate them.
Can't talk. Gaunlet is all-consuming.
Finished Gauntlet this morning! Whoo-hoo I beat it before Trent
and he had it before me! That that! I have now retired Gimli the
Blue Dwarf and started a new game with Gwaine the Red Knight....
Saw Attack of the Clones today. I have to say that I really liked
it. I've given up on the idea that I will ever experience Star
Wars again like I did as a kid, and resigning myself to that fact
allowed me to just enjoy the film. Except the "Sound of Music"
love scence. That was just too over the top. I half expected Natalie
Portman to break out into song. And what the hell were those creatures
grazing on the grass? They looked like giant fleas on green fur.
Still thinking about Attack of the Clones today. Walked around
work fending off co-workers with an imaginary light saber and
muttering "You don't know the power of the darkside"
under my breath at meetings.
Woke up in the wee hours of the morning with a nasty sort throat.
The temperature had dropped outside to about 40 degrees. Felt
lightheaded and crappy all day.
Stayed home from work today as I am sick, but at the time of
typing this I am feeling much better. Today I watched the movie
Yellowbeard,
which I hadn't seen since high school, I think. I had forgotten
what a funny movie it was. It was kind of depressing though, as
I started to realize that half the cast has died: Graham Chapman,
Madeline Khan, Peter Cook, James Mason, Marty Feldman - all gone.
Better today. Back to work.
Goood Feeling.... Put a new round of CDs into the car
today. On the way home I listened to the Violient Femmes' first
album, which I know all the words to after listening to it for
nearly 20 years. So I sang it at the top of my lungs all the way
home. Since I am still congested from the cold, my singing voice
much better approximated that of Gordon Gano's.
I realized that this is definately an album that is missing from
my lists of favorites, and so I added
it.
[Warning! Adult Enrty for today!]
Geoff's crotch is like catnip. He came over to watch movies and
drink beers and all night long my cats would not leave his crotch
alone. It was very disturbing to watch. He would extricate one
and five minutes later one was back sniffing away, prompting Mike
to comment, "Geoff's crotch is a pussy magnet," or something
to that effect. I about spit my soda all over the living room.
Normally I would not post an (somewhat) off-color joke to my
website, but: a) this was too damn funny, and b) Geoff dared me
to do it, so I absolutely have to now. Eventually we figured out
it was his Grateful Dead dancing bear belt that attracted the
cats, prompting one to wonder just what material those hippies
are using to make those belts.
Maybe this entry should be saved until the 27th cause most of
my day seemed to happen after midnight. Geoff came over again
and we watched good old Adult Swim (although we were denied Aqua
Teen Hunger Force!) and after thatwe watched Dogma. A bit before
midnight, right before we started Dogma, Mike called to see if
we wanted to go to see the late night showing of Attack of the
Clones with him and Zach (Zak? Zack? I don't know how he spells
his name...). We decided not to go, but I told Mike to stop by
afterwards. So at about 2:00am they stopped by and we popped in
Being John Malkovich. Pretty late to be starting a movie, I know.
But I has been up late Friday night and Saturday night as well.
Still, I figured I would fall asleep during the movie. Well I
discovered that bartenders, like Zach, you tend to have a lot
of energy in the wee hours of the morning. After Being John Malkovich,
Zach put in Plesantville and after that still, he put in Clueless.
I was up until after the sunrise.
Slept. Watched Moonraker. Slept some more.
Whoa! Today I took the "What
Matrix Character Are You?" quiz. Of course I am Neo.
I always have to be the star!
Feeling low today. Trayce came over and we watched The Others.
Later I watched Harry Potter and fell asleep watching it.
Still feeling blue today.
I have been enjoying the Violent Femmes so much lately, I replaced
a gaping hole in my CD collection by buying their second album,
Hallowed Ground. It was playing a few months back at a coffee
house and I realized my tape of it has long since disapeared.
I was surprised Best Buy actually had it in stock.
